Japanese Famous Places Series - Himeji Castle
Himeji Castle, located in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, is one of Japan's most famous castles, built in the early 17th century. The castle walls, made of white plaster and standing out against the blue sky, resemble a white heron with its wings spread, hence it is called "White Heron Castle." It is considered the finest example of castle architecture from the early Edo period. Himeji Castle is one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots, and in the spring evenings, you can enjoy the fantastic scenery of the illuminated cherry blossoms and Himeji Castle.
